Tibetan Thanka during Restoration and Cleaning:

Thankas are boudhist prayer paintings on silk. They are usually kept rolled and suffer therefore from repetitive handling, causing dark deposits from hands and smoke of the lamps.

On the left half, before restoration, one can easily detect the paintlosses and deformations of the canvas as bright traces. The right half has already been cleaned but not yet restored.

During the cleaning: this landscape (27 x 40,2 cm) shows a very oxidized varnish with smoke deposits. Cleaning and removing of the varnish are very efficient.

 After the intervention: the touch ups concern two perforations. The work ends with a protective varnish.  The painting gets a vivid aspect…and this for a few decennials!

Before the restoration: this landscape (33 x 41 ,2cm) is an oil on cardboard and belongs to un strong smoker, therefore its discoloration is important.

Restoration of a marine scenery: Oil on cardboard, 30 X 40 cm.
