Lady’s portrait

This is a perfect example for the paintings restoration in the ’traditional way’. A krack in the painting has been widely covered with gesso and also widely painted over, the way cars are repaired in a body shop.

The same painting seen from the back, with the same old way of paintingsrestoration. The ‘artist’ has cut up an older painting and took a piece, a patch, to reinforce the cracked canvas.

This is the way it should look like, after de definition of Restoration/Conservation in the ’Venice Charta’: reversability, stability and minimal intervention. The intervention must not cover any of the original paint, neither the filling, nor the inpainting.
